Hi!

Welcome to my blog where I document projects involving home renovation, staging and design.

One Room Challenge Spring 2018: Kid's Bedroom Makeover

One Room Challenge Spring 2018: Kid's Bedroom Makeover

Aside from being pumped that the One Room Challenge- a 6 week makeover event- is back for its 13th season, I'm ecstatic for what this particular room transformation means for our family...

Let me start by confessing that we've been co-sleeping for 3 years! That's right friends, you've read that correctly- my husband and I have been sharing our bed with our son since the day he was born!!! And let's not forget that both of our dogs pile into bed with us every night too. As you can imagine, we are more than ready to give our babe some much needed space and independence and reclaim our sleeping quarters for ourselves. ( I'm not going to pretend that this will be easy for either of us as parents- we've grown quite accustomed to little feet in our face and tiny hands reaching into our hair every morning, but it's time for all of us to make the change.)

And it turns out that this makeover will be even bigger than I had originally planned. My first mood board was designed so that my son, Zar, would have an easier sleeping environment in his current bedroom.  At the moment, he has 2 twin beds, that are much taller than average, packed into a small room (we used the pieces that we had left over from our former vacation property to furnish this space). But, with the constant request from Zar to own a bunkbed "please," I had to rethink things. The problem that I faced was the lack of wall space in order to fit a bunkbed.  Since windows take center stage on 2 walls of the room, and a mirrored closet on another, there was nowhere to fit a bed of that depth and width.

Then, just yesterday, I had an ah-hah moment: Zar will take over the guest room! The space is much larger after all, and why should our son, who will be sleeping in this bedroom every night, have a smaller spot than our guests, who are only here every so often! I honestly cannot believe I hadn't thought of this before!

With the new idea came a new moodboard:

All of the furnishings will be provided by our uber generous sponsor, Raymour & Flanigan. You may remember that I also worked with them during our amazing family room makeover for the 2017 ORC (which you can check out HERE), so I'm over the moon that we are partnering once again.

This essentially means 2 rooms for this momma to redo in 6 weeks- well make that 5 since we will be celebrating Zar's 3rd birthday and his grandma's 75th in Disney this month. I think I may need a bit of luck and a boat load of caffeine in order to finish, but I cannot wait to show you the newly transformed spaces and share all the in betweens along the way : ) Check back next week to see where we stand- fingers crossed I've at least painted!

And best of luck to all the other spring ORC participants- you can check out their plans HERE and HERE

See you soon...

Love and Creativity,

Diane
