Design Challenge- Wes Anderson Inspiration: Phase 1, The Plan

Design Challenge- Wes Anderson Inspiration: Phase 1, The Plan

screeExciting announcement!!!  I've been invited to participate in a monthly design challenge with a group of talented interior design bloggers and D.I.Y.'ers dujour. Starting February 28th through July 25th, we will be posting an "inspired by" space, vignette, décor tutorial etc. on the last Tuesday of every month. This is definitely something you don't want to miss because these ladies are creative mavens! February's inspiration is Wes Anderson and for those of you who aren't familiar with him, I will share a little info with y'all...

Hollywood director, Wes Anderson, is best known for his peculiar films of eclectic casts.  His movies usually revolve around a serious event with emotional depth, but is masked by comedy and quirk. Much like his story lines, his sets are equally intriguing and a bit odd.  Below are some screenshots...

Each scene elicits a visually stimulating symmetry and is truly vintage in nature. You will notice that there is a distinct 60's/70's vibe going on in most images and there is usually one color that stands out against the rest. Collected, layered, and interesting are words that come to mind, but there always seems to be a uniformity and purpose to the characters' personal spaces.

For this challenge, I'm going to focus on a our den/playroom. The space is broken up into two "sections" and while the t.v. watching side seems to be doing alright, the other half could use an injection of personality! See the before below...

Let's just say, this area will have more of a collected feel! Stay tuned...
