Designer Secret: Online Auctions
Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Black Rock Galleries. All opinions are 100% my own.
If you've been following my Instagram over the course of this past week, then you're probably already aware that I have a major crush on a local design store/warehouse in the Bridgeport, Connecticut area: Black Rock Galleries. My infatuation doesn't stop with their brick and mortar store, but extends to their online auctions- and if I'm being 100% honest, I may actually appreciate the auctions even more! Here's why...there's an undeniable rush that runs through me when I'm determined to win a particular item (I have a serious competitive streak), the bidding is totally private (for those who like doing things in their pj's!) and there's a chance that you can score BIG (as in being able to acquire something completely unique at a fraction of its real cost).
Now, because of all the reasons I just listed, you can imagine how excited I was when I heard that Black Rock Galleries was holding an auction in which they were selling items from the private curated collection of a local, very high end, very shi-shi designer. On top of that, the entire collection was up for preview by appointment. And don't worry if you didn't get the chance to see this one in person, BRG holds previews like this for other exclusive sales. Before I get into the details about the online bidding, let me just show you exactly how this company does a preview...
I have to pause just for a moment to remind you that this isn't their shop, THIS is how they do a PREVIEW!! I have a feeling you understand why BRG has my heart. Okay, more pictures...
That last photo, captured by my friend and fellow blogger Charlotte Smith, was me trying to figure out how in the world I will fit all the pieces that I plan to bid on in our house! And that leads me to just that: the bidding process...
(In my opinion this is the easiest way to add an original piece to your home, and I often frequent online auctions to give my client's homes punches of personlaity- I have found that these items often become those that they cherish most!)
- Register on www.BlackRockGalleries.com: fill in all your personal info so you're ready to bid when you see an item you love.
- Peruse the items that are available and click the little heart in the lower right hand corner (if you're using your smart phone) OR if you are using your computer or have already clicked on the item to learn more about it, click the "FOLLOW" button. Here's a peak at my personal dashboard highlighting some of the items I'm following...
- After you've created your "favorites" list, click bid and set the amount that you'd like to offer on a particular item (remember that there is always an auction fee so read through the terms closely- it's a set percentage that will be automatically figured into the cost and you will be able to view as you bid).
- To make things even easier, you can set a max bid so that you don't get caught in a bidding war last minute- the bids do tend to increase quicker in the final hours- and another insider tip is to set the max number at an odd integer, so instead of $50, set it at $53.
That's it! Easy as pie! This particular designer auction ends on October 25th and 26th, but I'd be sure to check BRG often since they have online auctions and estate sales ALL the time! Also, if you aren't in the area to pick up your items, don't be discouraged, shipping is offered through Polycongroup.com (just be sure to get a free quote first by inserting the item dimensions).
Lastly, if you happen to be in Connecticut, visiting their warehouse is a must- I describe it as 2 floors of heaven- and when you go, I hope you let me know so we can make a joint shopping trip of it!
As always- Love & Creativity,
